Stanley's teaching abilities & patience are unequaled. He is a multi-instrumental master and one heck of a nice guy. Stanley's classical background and dedication permit him to be as skilled teaching Celtic or Old Time, as he is Bluegrass or Classical. Stanley will be teaching mandolin and/or banjo. Learn to do melody lines like Maybelle Carter, add back-up and fill-in licks like Doc Watson, flatpick fiddle tunes like Norman Blake, learn the intricate cross-picking style of George Shuffler or take breaks in the jazzy bluegrass style of Tony Rice. Rhythm guitar styles including bass runs and rhythmic techniques can also be incorporated into Steve's extremely adept, friendly and diverse teaching abilities. |
Jerry's instruction in basic cross tunings and bow patterns is used in much Southern Fiddle Music, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Ozark's. Jerry has been living and fiddlin' in Grayson County Virginia for 33 years. Reticent by nature, this is a unique opportunity to learn Jerry's markedly distinct sound and some uncommonn fiddle tunes. Albert Hash, veteran string band performer was a founding member of the Whitetop Mountain Band as well as a recording artist in his own right. He was a brilliant instrument maker whose work inspired generations of craftsmen in the Appalachians. His fiddling and repertoire of tunes in what is known as the "Grayson County style" was a massive inspiration to other musicians in an area of Virginia that has become synonymous with old-time string music style fiddlin.' In later years Albert taught members of a younger generation of fiddlers, such as Brian Grim and Bruce Molsky. Brian is a fourth generation musician who grew up in Konnarock, VA. He is rooted in the tradition of great old-time dance bands of South West Virginia. Brian is passionate about passing on the infamous Albert Hash fiddlin' music, and he can deliver! |
